A few years ago I came across a tiny booklet in an old box of my grandmother’s. It was my mum’s baby book and at that moment I resolved to document every detail of my own child’s firsts. I was given the most divine Binth baby book by my colleagues and my intentions were good, but in reality, it was almost too gorgeous (I felt it needed a calligrapher, rather than Bic Biro scribbles) and I just jotted everything in a notepad ‘to copy over later’. Needless to say, the pages are still blank.
My Best Book About Me, £24.99 (plus £2 p&p), offers a far less daunting prospect for parents, with 50 pages divided titled things like My Parents, I Arrived!, My Very First, I Can Talk and My Travels. It’s the brainchild of illustrator Terese Öman, who solved the problem of not finding the perfect baby book by designing one (as you do!). I love the whimsical drawings of animals and the idea that it’s your child who’s creating the book themselves. There’s plenty of space for photographs, drawings and other stick-in items, plus two plastic pockets for extras. And the family tree is completely adorable. This should be on every mum or dad-to-be’s wishlist.
