Who knows what the weather will be doing today? Us neither, but we’re nothing if not prepared for all eventualities. Which is why I’ve been hunting down sunhats (in between cleaning mud off wellies). It’s something I’ve always found really tricky – they either offer great protection, but look as dull as ditchwater or are super-stylish with zero UPF. Needless to say I was excited to happen upon Little Hotdog Watson. They’re a brand new label specialising in sunhats that boast brilliant designs and super-whizzy technical credentials. The debut collection, Lollipop Jungle, comprises six styles of hat – Cub, Pioneer, Adventurer, Explorer, Trailblazer and Globetrotter in various combos of five eye-popping prints: Panda Pop, Pineapple Punch, Banana Split, Camo and Leopardtude. All hats offer UPF50+, the highest level of protection from UVA and UVB rays, a special smart fabric to keep little heads cool and even a citronella-based coating to keep insects at bay that lasts for up to 30 washes.
The Trailblazer, Explorer and Cub are cap styles, with Cub featuring a roll-up flap to cover delicate necks, whereas Pioneer, Adventurer and Globetrotter are bucket styles, that have the addition of a chin strap on sizes up to three years and they are all £19.99. Kitty was sent a Cub in Panda Pop to try and she’s barely taken it off! She loves the cute ears and the pandas (obviously) and I love that it might actually be kept on, unlike most sunhats which end up on the floor after about two minutes. The hats are currently only available up to five years, but I’ll be campaigning and haranging them for bigger ones as Alfie has already admired his little sister’s. Unisex, ethical and well-designed – exactly what we like to feature on BG!
