Black Lark Gallery opened its doors in June this year and already they are making me wish I lived in East Sussex. Since opening they have had some fabulous exhibitions including one of my favourite collaborations Ashley G and Drew. It’s their latest exhibition which has me itching to spend an afternoon in St Leonards-on-Sea.
Creature Feature is October’s exhibition running until 2nd November. It is a showcase of creature creations from some of the world’s hottest designers and makers. If, like me, you can’t get along to see it for yourself then stop by the Black Lark Shop and grab yourself one of the exhibits!
Le Train Fantome is the work of French born designer Fanja Ralison. She has created two fabulous Lumi dolls for the exhibition. Lumi (pictured above) is said to be as tall as trees standing at 45cm. She is made from cotton, linen and wool with a polyester filling. I love her hair and the way she dresses – perfect for helping Aunt Babette in the library. This is the kind of doll you buy to be a best friend and confidant. She is designed to be enjoyed by children and adults but should always be supervised with under threes. £115.
Cunning as a fox and wiley as a squirrel Cyril Squirrel Fox is a character who will lead you on many an adventure. Created by Brit designer Donna Wilson he knows what he likes (marmalade) and what he doesn’t (cottage cheese). He is made from knitted lambswool and filled with polyester. He is a cheeky 37 cm tall and super cuddly. £50.
This little rabbit is the work of Lucy Jane Bachelor and was created especially for this show. He has a stylish hounds tooth coat adorned with a heart button. He’s sleeping right now and needs someone to keep him warm and safe. £36.
I can actually vouch for the amazing quality of Canadian artist Ella Pederson’s beautiful Matryoshka Dolls. ToddlerGeek was given one as a welcome to the world gift by her favourite Aunt. She uses the coolest of contemporary textiles and stuffs her dolls with lambswool. They are extremely huggable and a perfect gift for any baby or child. Raira is ready for Autumn and wears her seasonal colours with a smile. She is about 32cm tall.  £65.
