Tried: LittleLife Voyager II back carrier

May 1, 2012. Leave a Comment

When you have a dog and a toddler, a decent back carrier is an essential. We relied heavily on our Phil & Ted’s, but it had certainly been through the mill (and the dog had chewed through one of the clasps) and was looking a bit worse for wear, so we were delighted when we were asked to put Little Life’s Voyager S2 through its paces.

First up, the Voyager looks great. We have the red and charcoal version  which features a face pad for little ones’ naps, printed with friendly woodland creatures. It’s really comfy to wear because of all the padding and additional straps, designed using the same methods applied to mountaineering backpacks. It claims to be suitable from 6 months to 3 years,  but we’ve used it extensively with Alfie and my niece, Flo, who’s nearly four, and no one complained of a trace of back ache, even after a reasonably lengthy walk. The thing that generally bugs me about back carriers is the faff of getting your child in and out while not toppling the carrier over, but you can steady this one with your foot, so your hands are free to fasten the straps.

Practical features include a rear-view mirror (handy for checking if your child has dropped off to sleep), a removable rucksack, insulated bottle carrier, toy loops ,foot stirrups, sun shade and rain cover – because dogs insist on going out no matter what the weather. We’ve also found our Voyager invaluable for festivals and other times when a pushchair just isn’t practical. A great investment that should see you through a few children and then have good resale value – £179.99, Little Life.
