It’s one of the eternal mysteries for children – what do their parents get up to while they’re at school or nursery? Despite repeated explanations, I know my two struggle to understand now that I work from home and often issue requests or suggest ideas of things I could do before they come home! The exquisitely illustrated What Do Grown-Ups Do All Day? by Virginie Morgand (Wide Eyed Editions, RRP £14.99) goes some way to answering the questions as it explores 14 workplaces and looks at the jobs and the people who do them. There’s a dizzying array of professions (over 100), from actor to zoologist, via coastguard, meteorologist and shepherd in places as varied as a hospital, concert hall and the great outdoors. A really interesting read for small people – both mine have found it engaging – and a great way to get them thinking about all the opportunities out there for them in the future.
