There are some books that children just return to again and again. There’s a Tiger in the Garden by Lizzy Stewart (Frances Lincoln, RRP £11.99) is one such book for Kitty – we have read it at bedtime every night since we got it. I can understand why she likes it so much (I do too) – it’s a magical story of a little girl escaping into her imagination, accompanied by the most beautiful lush illustrations of a flora and fauna. Nora, the protagonist, is bored at her grandma’s until she discovers a fantastic world of wonder in the garden along with her companion Jeff the giraffe – giant dragonflies, carnivorous plants, a melancholy polar bear and a friendly tiger equals no more boredom for Nora. A lovely read for preschoolers.
