I love the concept of WriteUnite whose aim is to send kits consisting of exercise books, a pencil case packed with writing materials and a rucksack to children in developing countries. The project was the brainchild of 17-year-old British student Omara Elling-Huang and the first fundraising drive is the publication of a fantastic book – The Perfect World. It’s a compilation of 700 pieces of written and drawn interpretations of the perfect world, collected from schoolchildren, aged 4 to 18, around the globe and is a real treat – both tear and laugh inducing. It’s also beautifully presented and would make a lovely present. The book costs £19.99 and all profits will be reinvested in the WriteUnite project. If you want to get involved, you can submit work for the second tome – I Believe I Can – which is due for publication next September. Inspirational stuff, well worth sharing with your children.
