A current bedtime favourite with Kitty is Jill & Dragon by Lesley Barnes (Tate Kids, RRP £11.99). It tells the story of avid reader Jill who is struck by the injustice of the Happily Ever After ending in her book in relation to the poor captured dragon. She embarks on a quest to find something the dragon is good at (not flower arranging or music it turns out) and discovers his hidden talent, before returning him to the book a much happier soul. Barnes’s illustrations are divine and we love the concept – even six-year-old picture book sceptic Alfie enjoyed listening in the other night.
