As you know, we’re not ones for pink and princessy over here, and we certainly wouldn’t entertain the thought of sitting around waiting for a prince to rescue us. So, we love a retelling of a traditional fairy tale with a feminist edge, which is exactly what Interstellar Cinderella by Deborah Underwood (Chronicle, RRP £10.99) is. Our heroine is a wannabe space mechanic who, with the help of a fairy godrobot, realises her dream of repairing the prince’s spaceship and, in a surprise twist ending, landing her dream job. The rhyming text is perfectly complemented by Meg Hunt’s astro illustrations. Great for budding engineers, space loves and fairytale fans of any gender from 3 upwards.
