I love a good children’s poem. And Melanie Arora’s A Cat Called Panda (Button Books, RRP £7.99) is just that. Featuring an array of monochrome mammals – penguin, raccoon, zebra, magpie – all beautifully illustrated by Charlie Brandon-King, it tells the tale of a slightly superior feline, Panda, explaining his unusual name to a young girl called Amanda. Kitty and I have read this at least once a day since we got it – she finds the concept of a cat being called Panda hilarious – so it gets a big thumbs up from us. And the fact that it’s written by a fellow Brightonian is a bonus. The size and beautiful print cover make it great gift material, too.
