You know that moment you see something and think, ‘What an excellent idea. Why didn’t I come up with that?’ Well, I’m experiencing that over Tegu magnetic (yes, magnetic!) wooden blocks. Handcrafted in Honduras from sustainable woods the ‘blocks’ are actually a mix of cubes and planks containing inaccessible magnets within.
There are three different sizes (Pocket Pouch, Discovery Set and Original Set) and four different colours (Natural, Mahogany, Jungle and Tegu brights) so you’re bound to find something to suit. I love the Pocket Pouch – ideal for travelling.
They really are complete genius. Not only can you literally defy gravity and therefore get wildly creative with your designs, but you won’t have tears when towers topple over, because they’ll still be joined together. Check out the Show ‘n’ Tell section of the site for inspiration – my personal favourites are Stonehenge and the Empire State Building, but there are plenty of less ambitious projects too.
Tegu also plants trees for every purchase and donated to a Honduran school, so you can purchase without guilt. Prices start from $32, but shipping to the UK is currently around $39, so you might want to wait until an enlightened UK store starts stocking them. Anyone?
