Alfie loves nothing more than writing his own stories. He was given a set of Rory’s Story Cubes a couple of years ago and they’ve really come into their own lately, particularly when used in conjunction with an Intergalactic add-on set he was gifted for Christmas. Story Box by Anne Laval (Laurence King, RRP £9.95) has a similar aim – namely to get children creating their own fairy tales. The box contains twenty double-sided puzzle pieces, each with a separate scenario, that can be joined together in any order to create a story that measures up to eight foot long! There are lots of diverse characters, from elves to witches, via giant rabbits, and three alternative endings. Alfie took it into his class and he and his friends declared it awesome and I can’t help but agree – hours of entertainment in a box. And, at under a tenner, a lovely, imaginative pressie.
