If there’s one thing we all love at BG HQ, it’s a good pair of shoes, so when we spotted PLAE Shoes we needed to put them to the test. For the last few months, my two have been living in their PLAE boots, and that’s no exaggeration. They’re the go to footwear for both kids. The two year old likes being able to get them on by himself and the six year old likes the comfort and ease of them. Lola’s been working the max metallic silver hard, when she opened the box she exclaimed with joy ‘this is what cinderella would wear to the skatepark!’ – they’re super glittery suede (not of the nasty sequin variety I hasten to add), plus hard wearing nylon. Finn’s shoe love is the max black, made from 100% perforated Nappa leather, a classic but cool staple. They both offer style as well as substance with the added bonus of ankle support and the ability to customise with swap in and out tabs. Ours have climbed trees, danced at festivals, squelched through mud, been on the beach, skatepark and everywhere in between and are still going strong. They’ve been in the washing machine a few times – yes, you can do that, just remove the insoles and chuck them in on a delicates wash, hoorah! They’re as suitable for a hillside hike as well as the family BBQ and like all PLAE footwear, designed with biometric science.
They have removable eco-ortholite anti-bacterial, anti-microbial insoles and use recycled cork EVA-moulded heel cups for guided fit. There’s mesh lining for added comfort and breathability and they use water-based glues and recycled PET upper materials. Not only that, but they’re produced in a solar-powered factory and their boxes and paper use 100% recyclable paper and soy-based ink! How’s that for eco credentials?
Along with the max boots, you’ll find a range of boots and shoes, including some suitable for school (hoorah!) on their newly launched UK site, They currently have children’s sizes EU 22 to EU 36 (that’s a UK infant 5 to a UK 3.5), including whole and half sizes. Prices start from £42 and a huge thumbs up from both Lola, Finn and this mama who loves their durability and flexibility for little feet!
