I’m a Rice obsessive. No, not the food, but the ethical Danish homewares designer’s who put the sizzle back in eclectic granny-ish pieces to distinct boho and folky effect. From soft toys, to dinnerwear (they do great melamine), ceramic tablewear and cookware, bedding, soft furnishings, quirky accessories and so much more, their stuff is like heaven and affordable too.
Let this room be your inspiration for some laid back vintage. The key to this style is not being afraid to mix colours and prints and layer textures, like with the waffle bedspread and quilted bedspread. It’s about throwing together what you like and subtly unifying the look with key colours – yellow cleverly frames the room at subtle points.
Nettle Green do a large selection of Rice products including the cotton durry rug shown, £56,
Cloudberry Living have the fabric frames currently reduced from £12 down to £6 in three different fabrics. You could of course make your own fabric frames – Ikea RIBBA frames + fabric stash = frames ahoy!
Also try Lulu Gifts who have both open baskets as well as the brilliant toy box baskets with decorations to suit either sex. I also spotted that Rice have arrived at John Lewis on Oxford Street so no doubt they’ll be at other branches. Zara Home (both the main and kids store) is excellent for storage baskets although it’s better if you have a branch near you as you need to spend £150 to get free delivery or cough up £19….Other Rice hotspots to virtually rummage through are Fig1 and Copenhagen Blue.
If you’re a regular BG reader, you may have seen Polly’s vibrant retro bedroom with a reclaimed hospital bed – I reckon salvage yards are strong bet – check Salvo to find your nearest. If you’re a dab hand at make-your-own, you can get cracking on your own bedspread, otherwise try charity and antique shops, eBay, plus hotspots like Zara Home, Anthropologie, and Lulu & Nat. Or…trawl Rice’s stockists to track the bedding down.
**Also try H is for for Home, for one off, handmade, and vintage items as they tend to have bedspreads.
