Review: NScessity 4 in 1 Food Blender

February 26, 2009. 2 Comments

NScessity 4 in 1 Blender

Elli writes… If you’re at (or soon to be at) the weaning stage and are blending vegetables like your life depends on it, you will be interested in a kitchen gadget that makes the task easier. The NScessity 4 in 1 Food Blender aims to do exactly that.

Concept: We’re talking ‘4 in 1’ here, which is blending, chopping, whisking, and pureeing. A sealed chopping bowl, measuring jug and stainless steel whisk are all included. Plus, the blender is rubberised in all the right places (steady on, ladies) for safety, on the hand grip, the base of the measuring jug and the base of the chopping bowl.

Set Up: The instructions are basic and not really necessary as it’s all very obvious, and set up was straightforward.

In use: It blends, it chops, it whisks, it purees.  To my mind, hand blenders are a step up in the kitchen department as I’m more of a hand-whisk-the-double-cream-for-20-minutes-until-your-arm-drops-off kind of girl. I don’t particularly enjoy going the long way round, as I just can never be bothered to haul out the Kitchen Aid and face the washing up at the other end. In that respect, this hand blender is a time-saver and easy to whip out when needed. It’s nice and compact, does what it says efficiently and looks pretty sleek. The moving parts are easy to wash up.

Any negatives: I wanted to flip the blender up side down and rest it on its end between blending, but it has a sloped end which means you have to lie it down on its side. In my case, this means a bit of mess on the kitchen surface; for more organised people, it would probably mean putting it on a plate to catch drips. There’s also only one speed setting. The culinarily accomplished might want more subtlety in their whizzing, but it was fine by me.

Where can I buy one?: They’re on offer at Blooming Marvellous for £19.99, saving you £10.

Overall: A handy addition to the kitchen. The early stages of weaning can feel like a grind and having a gadget at your disposal might make things a bit more interesting as well as potentially saving you time.

Verdict: 3.5/5
