A while back I was sent some Bumpkins waterproof bibs all the way from the US to try out. Bibs are definitely one of those things where you may believe that there is much of a muchness. On BG, what we feature bib wise has a lot to do with style but there is a lot more ‘function’ being added to bibs these days.
Take these Bumpkins bibs. They’re made of Bumpkins own patented waterproof fabric which is stain and odour resistant, with a velcro fastening neck. They are PVC, phthalate and vinyl free, have a catch-all pocket, and are machine washable or wipe clean.
What do I think?
They’re available in 25 fabric prints from the commercial Dr Seuss to ‘cute’ to some slightly more contemporary styles but the waterproof fabric mutes the colours a bit. The white trim takes the style notch down and it would be better for the trim to be more complimentary to the print. The catch-all pocket is a a bit of a mystery to me as it can catch dribbles but it doesn’t catch anything more solid. That said, where they could be really attractive is on the lack of ‘nasties’ in them plus the ease factor, and the lack of smell and stainability although I imagine this proves to be at its most attractive with bibs for the older age group.
This is a blog about stylish products for babies and their parents, so from a style perspective, these bibs get 2/5 but from a safety/features perspective, they get a 4/5, especially as the RRP’s are $5.95 for a Starter Bib and $7.95 for the SuperBib (the one I got) which fits from 3 months to 2 years.
However, even though I am happy to feature products from abroad, they need to be super duper easy to get a hold of with reasonable shipping rates to the UK. Bumpkins shipping rate claims to be $30.95! After spending a lot of time searching, I found Nick’s Diapers sell the Superbib for $6.95 and will email you a quote for the shipping charge.
Overall: 3/5. Safe in style, very safe in features, not the easiest of products to get a hold of in the UK.
