In my latter years, I’m becoming obsessed with being organised (mostly talking about it and writing lists that keep growing), so I was more than a bit curious about what a Mum’s Diary would involve – My current diary has scribbles, Ashtons & Parsons powder, and crumbs from my secret biccy sessions. Thankfully a Mum’s Diary isn’t covered in mess (yet) but they have been tailored to help mum’s organise family life. For example, the left hand page is a week to view for you and the right hand page is a week to view with ‘Everyone Else’s Week’. As your child gets older, the more places you have to, things you have to do, and oodles of things to remember and as many of us privately say, or very loudly when it gets stressy, ‘It’s muggins who has to do all the remembering and organising!’
It has a section for details on yourself and ‘My Partner In All This’ (some may find that a little cheesy) and four children’s info pages with their class contacts page facing it. From a travel plans section (I cannot believe how often people ask us about doing stuff in a years time!), pages for key dates to remember, gift and pocket money records, to a month to view section on plans for 2011, an address book section called ‘People and Places’, a section to detail people by families, and a section on need to know numbers which has a list of everything you can possibly think of to list a number against, this diary has getting you organised firmly on its agenda.
The clever thing about it is that it does manage to capture the craziness of the gazillion things we have to think of and put it into an organised format that you can keep track of so that no matter where you are, you’ve got your essential information at a glance.
The only section I wasn’t keen on was the ‘Need To Know www’ section where you can list your username and passwords – oh hell no! I’d be cacking myself about losing it then!
I’m feeling the teal more than the pink but considering how practical this is, they should definitely introduce more colours and maybe some with prints? Liberty ones maybe. I’m glad they realised that it wasn’t neccessary to put ‘Mum’s Diary’ on the front as it would have made it too twee for my tastes – it looks like an ordinary diary but is chock full of usefulness tailored to motherhood. If you have a busy week, you’ll certainly find this useful and I think it particularly comes into it’s own when you have a toddler’s social life to contend with.
I have to say, I’m looking forward to using mine in 2010 so I can hopefully say goodbye to double bookings and panic buying on Amazon and phoning the boyf looking for information whilst he laughs at my forgetfulness…
