Call me selfish,  but I do so love it when a hot discovery is local to me. Enter Mamissima, a petite boutique in the funky North Laine area of Brighton, not far from the fabulous Dinky Vintage and Toby Tiger. I first happened upon its charms when I was pregnant with Alfie, as it stocks fabulous maternity and nursing wear, from lingerie by HOTMilk and Elle Macpherson, to chic dresses by Noppies and Citizens of Humanity jeans. Plus, Chambers & Beau jewellery makes a great ‘push pressie’ – bracelet (above), £35.
I’ve been a frequent visitor since for the equally wonderful and unusual collection of children’s clothing – brands stocked include ilovegorgeous (this amazing dress is £58), Green Baby and too cute ballet pumps from Baby Bloch.
The store also stocks a small-but-perfectly-formed selection of toys, including Rice’s fabric guitars, cute retro cookery sets and the always entertaining Happy Hopperz. I’ve snagged a glow-in-the-dark lizard, £6, for Alfie’s stocking and I think the Oskar & Ellen Circus Tent (above) would make a fantastic role-playing gift for a range of ages. A fab shopping destination to bookmark.
