Custom t-shirts are great for individual style and bargain fashion. My friend Abby not only looks after three children and runs Juicy Tots but she also found 15 minutes to make some cute iron on transfer t-shirts for her youngest daughter’s birthday. Abby used artworks by Angela Vandenbogaard and Amy Ruppel from the Feed Your Soul free art project to create two super cute t-shirts. She has been kind enough to share a few tips with us:
T-Shirts: The supermarkets do cheap t-shirts these days (these were 2 for £2 from Asda) as well as H&M who do very reasonable organic ones. Light colours work best. I would advise to practice on an old t-shirt first so you don’t mess up the new one if you go wrong!
Iron-on Transfer Paper: I bought my paper in WH Smiths but if you want to buy online Amazon sell 20 sheets for £7.99.
Making the Transfers: Once you have printed your transfers trim around the design – I forgot to do this with the owls and ended up with a big plastic square around the picture. Follow the instructions and wait until it is cool before peeling the paper off – if you don’t the design won’t stick properly.
These tees are great for playgroup as cheap to make and look stylish but you won’t be gutted when they come home covered in paint!
Thank you for sharing your top tips Abby.
