You know we can’t get enough of arty, crafty bits here at BG HQ, so we were thrilled to receive a Make & Wonder creative kit in the post. The brainchild of primary school teacher Nicola Kirk, Make & Wonder offers after-school art clubs in Manchester and a series of creative kits in cardboard boxes.
There are three artist-inspired boxes – Piet Mondrian, £16, Yayoi Kusama, £18, and Bridget Riley, £12 – plus two materials-based kits, featuring interesting papers, £19, or feathers, £21, and a further mini Bridget Riley mini kit, £5, which is the one Kitty tried out. Each box contains a variety of materials – ours had black and white plain and patterned paper, straws, stickers, pipe cleaners, tissue, twine and glue.
There is a deliberate lack of instructions, although there is an information sheet about the artist, as this is an open-ended invitation to create. Kitty spent a good hour cutting and sticking to produce her fabulous Riley-esque piece and we still have lots of bits left to do it all over again. The big boxes make great gifts, while the small kits are ideal as party favours for an art party.
