As far as I’m concerned, large muslin swaddle blankets are an absolute essential for a new baby. Not necessarily for swaddling (both of my little fidgets hated it, so we never did it), but as a light blanket in hot weather, a burp cloth, an impromptu picnic blanket or a pushchair cover, they can’t be beaten. I used one as a sheet on our BedNest as I couldn’t find a fitted design I liked. I’m particularly fond of bamboo ones as they just get softer and softer each time they’re washed.
