With the rise in popularity of unashamedly retro designs on the high street (think Jools’ Oliver’s largely 70s-inspired Little Bird range for Mothercare), more people are searching out genuine vintage childrenswear for a more unique look. I discovered Les Mistons through a local Facebook group (hi, Hanover Community Board) and it really is a treasure trove of bygone gorgeousness with clothing ranging from the 50s to the 70s, principally from France or the UK and, more often than not, new and unworn with tags intact. It’s the brainchild of two mamas in Brighton who struggled to find unusual and inexpensive pieces for their own enfants. You’ll find pinafores, smocks, knitwear, shorts, swimming cossies, shoes, hats, dungarees, trousers, skirts, coats and vests in myriad styles and sizes, although there is currently more on offer for girls than boys. There’s definitely a lot to love, including fabulous dolls’ outfits from the 70s, certain to add a little je ne sais quoi to Barbie’s wardrobe.
