If you’re not lucky enough to be escaping to sunnier or snowier climes this Easter, why not think about seeing a show – there are loads of brilliant productions for children around at the moment. Here are just a few of our favourites around the UK.
Flatpack. Inspired by the films of Buster Keaton and combining live music, puppetry and slapstick, this show follows the fortunes of a newly married couple as they try to construct a flatpack house, accompanied by live music. Suitable for over-threes.
Komedia, Brighton. 1 to 3 April. Tickets from £6.50.
Grass. One for all the creepy crawly fans out there, Second Hand Dance company uses dance, puppets, projection and play to explore the ground beneath our feet. Recommended for ages two to five.
Royal Festival Hall, Southbank, London, 8 to 10 April. Tickets from £6.
Happy Harry’s Cafe. Michael Rosen’s poem about Happy Harry and his soup-eating pals is adapted for the stage by Birdsnest Theatre. Suitable for ages three to five, but there are alternative performances for under twos – both with stay and play options.
Polka Theatre, Wimbledon, London. 31 March to 8 April. Tickets from £9.
Horrible Histories: Groovy Greeks and Incredible Invaders. We were lucky enough to catch Horrible Histories’ stage show at Camp Bestival a couple of years ago. They present two new shows this Easter – a must-see if you have a budding Mary Beard or David Starkey in the house.
The Lowry, Manchester. 5 to 9 April. Tickets from £15.
Boxy & Sticky. Welsh company Theatr Iolo presents the tale of two of the greatest childhood playthings – the box and the stick – and what you can create with a little imagination. Suitable for over threes, with the opportunity to stay and play afterwards.
