Tate Britain’s David Hockney exhibition is on my must-visit list and I have a feeling the children will get a lot out of it as well – Hockney’s large-scale colourful paintings are super appealing to small people. I’m going to prime them with the fabulous Meet the Artist: David Hockney, An Art Activity Book by Rose Blake (Tate, £6.99) which is jam-packed full of Hockney-inspired makes and drawing prompts.
The book kicks off with an introduction to the Bradford-born artist’s work, from his landscapes of Yorkshire and LA to his portraits, including the wonderful My Parents, via his stage design, photocollages and iPad artworks. Blake’s illustrations are a joy and the book really brings Hockney’s work to life in a way that will engage children of all ages.
