I’m continuing on my quest to download all the best apps to keep a two-year-occupied on a long-haul flight and Critteroos is definitely in contention. It’s a simple concept – you have the top of an animal that you have to match to the bottom, whereupon you get a round of applause. So far, so same old, but what’s great about Critteroos is that you can mismatch top and bottom to create your own animal, which you can then name and print or email to friends and family.
Initially, Alfie didn’t like this aspect of the app (cue lots of ‘That’s not right, Mummy!’), but now he loves designing his own weird and wonderful creatures and I love making up ridiculous monikers (embra, anyone?). There are 1,296 possible combinations, so this is definitely good value for money at £1.99! There is even a flashcard mode in English and Spanish, so it could also be used as a language tool. Also check out the Match-a-Roo games by the same company – excellent educational resources.
