I don’t know what I would have done without our fabulous bright green Scandi playmat when Alfie and Kitty were tiny. I was so pleased with it as most of the ones on the high street back then were pastel pink, baby blue or boring beige, emblazoned with teddies or bunnies. Play mats have come a long way since those days, but really stylish ones are still pretty hard to come by. Totter & Tumble’s luxury playmats are another level entirely. Made from easily wipe-cleanable memory foam, they are nasties free and tested to European Toy Standards EN71.
They offer cushioning for little limbs while crawling or learning to walk and, as a bonus, double up as great supportive yoga mats. Their USP is their stylish reversible designs – the new collection pairing leopard-print with kilim-inspired diamond patterns in grey, terracotta, green and plaster pink. Prices start from £125 for a compact mat, or £140 for standard, with £10 from every purchase going to charities The Black Curriculum and Duty to Care. Might seem expensive for a playmat, but when you consider they’re designed to remove the need for a potential trip hazard, raisin and rice cake hoarding rug during the baby and toddler years, it’s actually a good investment.
