If you’re in Scotland, then I wholeheartedly recommend you zip over to Falkirk to check out The Illustrators at The Park Gallery in Callendar House. Curated by author Julia Donaldson, the exhibition features work from our best-loved children’s book artists, including Axel ‘The Gruffalo‘ Scheffler who draws on envelopes of the letters he sends (some of which Ms Donaldson has kindly donated to the show), Emily ‘Meerkat Mail‘ Gravett, Nick ‘Octopus Sockoctopus‘ Sharratt and many other instantly recognisable illustrators.
My personal favourite is David Roberts, whose drawings for Donaldson’s Tyrannosaurus Drip are, needless to say, a huge hit in this dinosaur-obsessed household. Utterly delightful. The exhibition itself runs until 2nd May and there are a series of related events, including storytelling sessions, screenings of The Gruffalo and a drama workshop. A great opportunity to pique your child’s interest in art galleries from an early age.
