There’s a glut of children’s cutlery on the market, but the majority of it is garish, plastic or plastered with cartoon characters. Oh for some simple, stylish, stainless steel sets… Lovers of design will be familiar with the name Arne Jacobsen, the Danish architect and designer responsible for such icons as the Ant and Egg chairs. Designed in 1958, this scaled-down cutlery set is exquisite and at £22, not too unreasonably priced.
This classic is pricey (£65 – eeek!), but gorgeous and would make a wonderful naming day or christening gift. Designed by Professor Peter Raacke, the Mono Petit knife, fork and spoon feature stylised 50s bird, fish and snail engravings on the handles.
Just as gorgeous, but substantially less wallet-unfriendly are the animal knife, fork and spoon from Zara Home Kids. Majorly cute and a mere £2.99 per piece.
