Yesterday I raved about Nameberry which instantly became my favourite baby name source as it’s choc full of unique and in some cases, highly unusual names and also full of handy lists.
The site is a collaboration between some of the world’s leading baby name experts and here are the books that have inspired the site. Who are they perfect for? Those who aren’t looking to play it safe of course!
The Baby Name Bible, aside from offering over 50k names with plenty of creative versions, also provides imagery so that you can get an understanding of the connotations that some names create. It also uses symbols to indicate popularity and highlights author favourites. £5.58 at our Bambino Goodies Amazon Store.
Cool Names for Babies boasts that it’s the “only name book ever published that includes neither John nor Mary”. From hot trends, to cool celebrity names, to even giving you the background theory to coolness, I’m pretty sure with my hot in the 1970s name that I’m unlikely to be in there… £4.49 at the Bambino Goodies Amazon Store.
Beyond Jennifer & Jason, Madison & Montana: What to Name Your Baby Now, by definition of the title certainly sounds like the most American of the bunch because I don’t know anyone called Madison or Montana here in the UK. Hmmm, does that make it cool then? Still, it is full braver name choices and instead of the drudgery of reading page after page in alphabetical order, names are instead organised into 6 sections – style, popularity, image, sex, family, and tradition and there are over 100 lists within these. £7.18 at the Bambino Goodies Amazon Store.
Don’t forget that there’s also the Nameberry site which I shall be reading regularly!
