Maileg rattles – I’m a huge fan of these rattles full of character by Danish company Maileg. There’s several designs to choose from and you can find the range across Little Baby Company and Sisters Guild, £8.50-£9.50.

Flexibath Toys – Free from all dodgy chemicals, this features a shelf which sticks to any bath (including their own Flexibath) and a coffee/tea making set of two cups, a jug, a funnel and a lid. £13.95, John Lewis

Stacker by Green Toys – For chic on a budget with excellent eco credentials, look no further than this stacker which is made entirely from plastic milk bottles. £13 Toyella. Or you can get the stacking cups version for £11.99. Both suitable from 6 months.

Doll Pram and Baby Walker by Moover – We’ll be forever fans of Brio’s walker but after hogging this guide for a few years, it was time for a change! Danish company Moover’s simple, beautifully designed wooden pram (£58.95) and walker (£44.95) delights are suitable from 10 and 8 months respectively. Both from Little Pumpkin
