I am a book-o-holic, I love opening up a book and finding a whole host of ideas which had never occurred to me. With what is set to be the nicest Summer since I became a Mama stretching out in front of us I am on the hunt for some outdoor fun inspiration. Here are three books with natural outdoor play firmly at their centre.
I Love Dirt! is a book with 52 open ended natural play activities. It is divided up into seasons and the Summer activities include: water hole watching, collecting different types of rock and stargazing. While the activities may not all be ground breaking they provide a jumping off point for exploring the natural world and are perfect for young children thirsty for discovery. As it is written for the American market some of the terminology can jar but it doesn’t take away from the ideas at all. It is illustrated by Susie Ghahremani of BoyGirlParty and printed on recycled paper.
Summer Nature Activities for Children harnessing the elements for inspiration this book is based on the work of the Children’s Nature and Garden Centre in Germany. This is a book which can grow with your child and will no doubt be a favourite each summer.
Nature’s Playground this is again divided up into seasons and is written for a UK audience. Summer activities include Summer scents, wild weaving and corn dollies. There are also sections for after dark and all year round. The photography is brilliant and it is definitely one you’ll reach for over again as your family grows.
