We watched Charlie and Lola’s Best Bestest Play twice so it goes without saying that we’ll have to go and see Charlie and Lola’s Extremely New Play before its run ends at the Polka Dot Theatre in Wimbledon. As with ‘Best Bestest’, this play takes a few of their popular stories including the one where Lola and her best pal Lottie are supposed to be taking care of Sizzles the dog – I feel as if I know these tales like the back of my hand…
If you haven’t seen the previous play, do be prepared for puppeteers dressed in black who are very obviously there moving the clever cardboard puppets with the soundtrack and expect surprises – the kids went nuts when the room filled with bubbles at the original play. As a grown up, you might think the setup is weird (it kinda is) but children seem to be oblivious to this and are completely enthralled. They say suitable for 4-7 year olds but I took Nia when she was 2 and she loved it. That said, under 4’s can only go to Watch With Baby performances. The theatre also has an area for under 1’s apparently.
When: Until 27th August 2013
Where: Polka Dot Theatre, 240 The Broadway, Wimbledon, London, SW19 1SB
Prices: £16 (bit more expensive than last time we note!) but there are also ‘Saver Shows’ which are £10 each.
