Alfie and Kitty love to bake (as you can see from the picture!) And the messier the better. This week, we’ve been trying out a couple of the fabulous kits from BKD London. The brains behind the business, Adelle Frejus, also runs classes and events, so, if you’re in London, keep an eye out for them as they look brilliant. We kicked off by having a go at Pirate Cupcakes. The box contained a chocolate cake mix, raspberry icing sugar, eyes, chocolate sprinkles and icing pens. All we needed to add was butter and two eggs, plus our excellent mixing/icing/eating skills.
The instructions were simple and clear enough for Alfie, 6, to read easily. There was a lot of decoration inspiration on the recipe card and the children loved giving their cakes names and personalities. Being wheat-free, I couldn’t try them, but I’m assured they were yummy and the icing was delicious.
We also tried Biscuit Pops (unfortunately someone forgot to put the sticks in, so they were just biscuits) and Alfie and his friend had great fun rolling, cutting and sticking the bright royal icing. So many baking sets are pink or Disneyfied, so it’s really refreshing to find a truly unisex – check out the stylish black and white packaging – non character-led range. I think we’ll be investing in the Little Monster cupcake kit as they look adorable.
