If there’s one thing we’re fond of at BG, it’s a good old-fashioned singalong. And that’s exactly what we got when we ventured over to Hove for Excellent Songs for Children Live. Billed as a proper gig for kids, it featured the brilliant songs of Al Start, performed by her and her Beastie Band. If you’re not aware of Al, then head over to Go Kid Music for a taster – you’ll soon be hooked and then you can buy the CDs, perfect for the car. Al performed all our favourites (FYI: mine is Gorrid the Horrid, Kitty’s Bear in My Wardrobe and Alfie’s September 1666 and we’re all partial to a rendition of I Love Cake!) – there are signs to accompany the lyrics and instruments were handed out, so it was all highly interactive. We also had the added treat of a mini set from Zoe Lewis, featuring fantastic tunes such as Sheep (yup, all about our woolly friends) and Gringo! (lots of Arrribba-ing from my two). Al’s songs are seriously catchy, so there were lots of parents singing along as well as the children and, although the ‘mosh pit’ did slightly descend into chaos after the introduction of silly string, it was a really fun afternoon.Big thumbs up from the BG Kids.
Al’s next project is a puppet show version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears called Just Right, being performed as part of Brighton Fringe Festival on 2 June. Get your tickets here.
