Elli writes…In the week that Obama is inaugurated as the 44th President of the United States, the star-spangled banner is everywhere. I thought that it would be fun to have a look for some baby stars and stripes to fit the mood.
First up, a new arrival from that all-American brand Tommy Hilfiger – the candy-striped Lily Trench Coat in apple red (above left), which has an enticing look of spring about it. Priced at £56.27, it’s available in sizes 68 to 98, ie 6 months to 3 years.
No one does stripes like Katvig. A cut above your average onesie, this knitted bodysuit (above middle) at Nordic Kids caught my eye. The combination of green buttons with turquoise and cream appeals and you don’t get much cuddlier than 100% superfine wool – although this does make it a little pricier at £31.99. It comes in three sizes – 3-6, 9-12 or 18 months.
I am losing a daily battle at the moment to get my six-month old’s arms into clothes without tears of frustration – on both sides. In warmer weather, this cord gilet (above right) from Toby Tiger would help to keep the peace. Being reversible, there’s a choice of statement red or night-sky navy, which keeps things interesting. £27.99 for size 1-2 yrs and 2-3 yrs, or £2 more for 3-4 yrs and 5-6 yrs.
More bold stars come courtesy of Molo’s blue beanie hat (above left) in warm knitted cotton wool, reduced from £16.99 to £11.04 in the Little Baby Company sale, fits 2-4 year olds.
Katvig make their mark again with this long sleeve velour dress in lollipop stripes good enough to eat (above middle). I like the feature pockets and neckline detail and I also like the sale price of £19 from Lula Sapphire – although only size 18 months is left, so don’t hang around.
Lastly, it seemed only right to check in at American Apparel. Not ones for stars or stripes – or any decoration for that matter – it’s all about colours and cuts. So instead, how about these California fleece pants (above right)? They may not be quite on theme, but they sure sound cosy, y’all! £8 a pair, there are eight colours to choose from and four sizes – 3-6, 6-12, 12-18 or 18-24 months.
