If you’re in London or Lancashire I’m officially jealous, as you have the good fortune to still be able to buy tickets for Oily Cart Theatre Company’s latest production, Drum (the Brighton date is sold out). Unlike most children’s theatre, it’s aimed specifically at the under-twos. Oily Cart shows are without fail wonderful and this multi-sensory one, with its compelling combination of drums, light boxes, shadows, feathers, bubbles and raisins (!) promises to be no different.
The audience is only 30 strong and the performance lasts 55 minutes, so it’s a great, not too overwhelming introduction to the theatre experience for little ones. See it at Earlsfield’s Tara Arts from 22 March, Polka Theatre, Wimbledon from 29 March, Rossendale’s Horse & Bamboo Theatre on 3 April and Stratford Circus on 9 April. I’d recommend booking now as the limited capacity means tickets are being snapped up quickly. There is also a separate version for older children with disabilities.
