If the thought of chocolate advent calendars fills you with dread, or you would like something just a little bit more sustainable or fun, then you will be pleased to hear there are some great alternatives out there…
Cotton Advent Calendar, £12, H&M. Has a pocket for each day, perfect for little gifts, notes and other treasures.
Advent Calendar To Colour (Usborne Publishing), £2.99, The Book People. Comes with cardboard gate-folds which open to reveal a busy street scene with masses of things to colour or scribble on!
Lollipop Tree, £24.99, Lakeland. The stuff of toddler dreams! Arrange the wooden branches and decorate with treats on sticks.
Advent Calendar Tree, £29.95, The Little Boys Room at Not on the High Street. These little drawers look fabulous. Made from kraft board and available in two colours.
Advent Wall Stickers, £16, Fun To See. A jolly way to count down the days, simply choose where to place the correct numbered sticker until the tree is complete on the 24th December. I don’t think ours would end up this neat!
Manilla Christmas Advent Cards, £12, Sisters Guild. Attach these to gifts or just add notes on the back of fun things to do and string them together or hang from a branch. So many possibilities.
