It’s safe to say that we probably own more nightlights than you’d think humanly possible. Alfie has a Moon in my Room, a star projector, an illuminated night sky globe and a Moonlight plug in, while Kitty has an ISI Mini owl, a GroEgg with Orla the Owl shell and a Lindam Light My Way owl. It’s basically like downtown Tokyo upstairs in our house at night. Kitty has recently added an Aloka SleepyLights owl to her lighting arsenal and, I have to say, it’s the best of the lot. Unlike lots of children’s night lights, it can stay on all night (although there is the option to for it to fade, then turn off after an hour) which is great for Kitty as she’d been waking up in the dark and shouting for us or getting up – I’m sure you know the drill. The remote control (yup, you don’t even have to get up) has twelve (!) colours to choose from and a bright white mode perfect for stories. It also has a rainbow button (it just gets better and better) which cycles through the rainbow colours and is extremely soporific – I’ve been known to doze off when this is on! If your child doesn’t need disco lighting to get to sleep, then the Sleep button fades the lamp to a low level in any colour. The owl design is super-cute and fits perfectly with Kitty’s extremely owly room – see pic. Not cheap at £39.95 from John Lewis, but, in my book, definitely worth the investment for an unbroken night’s sleep! And if you don’t like owls (what?!), there are loads of other designs, from pirates to puppies, via unicorns and dinosaurs.
