One of the big hit presents this year was 10 Little Penguins by Jean-Luc Fromental and Joelle Jolivet the people behind 365 Penguins and Zoo-ology.
10 Little Penguins is a small sized pop-up book starting out with 10 penguins who gradually disappear until there are zero. There are lots of books on the market that work on the ten to none rhyming narrative but what sets this one apart is the stunning illustration and pop-up papercraft. Each scene leaps off the page and there is a lever to animate the disappearing penguin. The construction is sturdy enough to withstand Monty moving it and even reading it on his own (although I’ll admit to hovering over him). The way each penguin disappears is surprising and amusing making this book such fun you won’t mind reading it over and over.
