If you have school-age children, it won't have escaped your notice that it’s World Book Day tomorrow (if you’re anything like us, the requests for elaborate costumes began a while back), but you might have missed that Sunday is International Women’s Day. We’ll be doing our annual round up of empowering books on the day, but, in the meantime, these fun resources will help get children thinking about why we even need a day to celebrate the achievement of women around the world.
Emmeline Pankhurst peg doll kit, £2.75, Cotton Twist x Thea Chops Books. Part of a series of Wonderful Women and a great little kit for future feminists.
Free colouring pages, Rachel Ignotofsky. How cool is this printable Frida Kahlo colouring page to celebrate the launch of the brilliant Women in Art? Love the monkeys!
Fantastically Great Women Who Worked Wonders Activity Book by Kate Pankhurst (Bloomsbury, RRP £5.99). Look out for the latest book in this engaging series, which focuses on female environmental campaigners.
Free printable posters from Nevertheless. We love these vibrant tributes to eight women who’ve had huge success in the STEM industries, including astronaut Mae Jemison, GPS innovator Gladys West and DNA discoverer Rosalind Franklin.
Free Printable Women's History Banner, Study All Knight. Designed as a teaching resource, but equally great at home, features illustrations of amazing women from Marie Curie to Malala.
One of our favourite websites A Mighty Girl has lots of resources available – we love these free printable quotation posters, taken from That’s What She Said by Kimothy Joy.
All About My Role Model printable mini book, International Women's Day. Encourage children to think about the strengths of others, reflect on qualities they admire and explore differences.
I Am A Rebel Girl Journal by Elena Favilli (Timbuktu, RRP £15). Fantastic self-esteem boosting journal from the team behind the brilliant Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls books.
These sheets from Alpha Mom are great – we used them for our IWD Woodcraft Folk session last year and the children loved choosing a role model, drawing and colouring them and writing a sentence about their choice.
And, finally, we adore Rosie Revere, the wannabe inventor and her riveting (sorry!) Great Aunt Rose. So we’re all over these activity sheets that you can print onto A4, then make a Rosie plane or help perfect the blades on her Rosie-copter.
