10 Best: ideas for a farm-themed room

July 29, 2011. Leave a Comment

I don’t know a toddler who isn’t enamoured of Old Macdonald, so a farm-themed room is a bit of a no brainer. Colourful and fun, it works brilliantly for boys or girls and you can ramp up the tractor count if you’ve got a petrolhead on your hands. I took this fantastic print from ByGraziela as a starting point as it has everything you need for inspiration. First produced in 1977, it looks just as good on today’s walls – I love the cheeky geese and the cute apple trees, £17.50.

Not many little ones need a wake-up call, but at least this cheery acrylic cockerel clock (aka Chicken Ticker) by Jolyon Yates will let them know it’s too early to bother Mum and Dad (well, in theory). £33.95, Bouf.

Similarly colourful are these silhouette wall decals by Dutch designer Bart van Heesch. And a bargain at £10 for six, Monsters & Munchkins.

There’s not a horse among the wall stickers, but don’t despair, this simple, stylish cushion will satisfy your equine deficiency. $28, Classic By Nature.

Where cooler to hang your coat than from a little piggy’s snout? One for the Peppa enthusiasts in your home. £11.50, Puhlmann and Zoo at Formahouse.

Ah, lovely bunting. Bring a vintage twist to your nursery with this super-cool set by Moba Design, which will go so well with the animal decals. Yes, it will set you back about *whispers* £100, by the time you factor in postage from Canada, but it is lovely, no?

Quack, quack. I do love Egmont’s animal lamps and this cute duck from Heico is very similar with its 50s vibe. €55.50, Little Zebra.

Add a touch of whimsy to your main lighting with Candy Queen Designs’ kitsch cow switch – guaranteed to make the children want to turn the light off at bedtime. £24.99, Not on the High Street.

Counting sheep has never been so easy as with Flensted’s  classic monochrome mobile – brilliant for babies and big kids alike. £14.95, Bird Kids.

There’s a plethora of farm bedlinen on the market, but I’m rather taken with this kinda traditional, but also contemporary quilt with it’s bright red tractor and apple tree. £39.95, Marquis & Dawe. Ee-i-ee-i-o.
