I’m not crazy about kids in jewellery, but there’s no denying that little girls (and boys) are fond of  bangles and baubles, so if you are going to indulge them, at least make sure they’re not adorned with lurid plastic. Fabric beads are a great alternative to plastic and as a bonus, don’t break and scatter all over your floor for you to find over subsequent years. This minimalist blue and white strand from Simple Kids is the perfect example. £12, Couverture & The Garbstore.
I defy you to find a cuter brooch than this wooden embodiment of little bunny Boo, complete with twitchy nose and fluffy tail. Gorgeous pinned on a bag or coat, it’s bound to become a favourite embellishment. £5, Belle & Boo.
Yet more proof that simple is effective – New York design duo Atsuyo et Akiko’s white metal heart pendant on bright pink string. A goes-with-anything, wear-it-everyday necklace. €10, Smallable.
Hearts, toadstools, beads, a teeny tiny tin with hot pink lining – what’s not to love about these wooden Haba Heart rings? £5.95 for set of two, Lula Sapphire.
Ethnic-inspired jewellery was all over the catwalks and, although this is pricey, I’d love one for myself. Channel your inner Kabbalah-era Madonna with a Hortense Moon bracelet. (It also comes in other colours if you’re not feeling the Material Girl vibe). £46, Caramel Baby & Child.
As the mum of a boy, I didn’t want to leave them out, so here are a few less feminine options, although clearly they’re gender neutral. In fact, I know lots of young ladies who would go wild for this wooden silhouette Stegosaurus pin. Alfie would also love it, so I feel one may stomping it’s way to Brighton very soon. £5, Lost at Sea.
These bracelets have such a lot going for them. 1) Green credentials – they’re made from recycled flip flops. 2) Bright colours – loving the orange and blue mix. 3) Bargain price – pile them high or use as party bag favours.  Starfish bracelets, €3 for five, Shak-Shuka.
Finally (and my favourite) is this not-at-all scary wolf necklace from purveyors of wonderment Wovenplay. I can just envisage making up stories about his daring escapades in the forest. *howls like a wolf* £21, Orfeo Design.
