First published in 1958, The Wonderful Egg by Dahlow Ipcar (Flying Eye Books, RRP £11.99) has definitely stood the test of time. It’s a kind of story book meets dinosaur fact book with absolutely exquisite illustrations. The tale revolves around the origins of a mysterious egg. Where did it come from? Who does it belong to? All the possibilities are explored as Ipcar looks at a series of dinosaurs and their attributes, from the familiar to the more unusual. This is a lovely tome to share with your child – I’ve really enjoyed reading it with Alfie, not least because the pictures are so fab, and he (as a total fact fiend) has loved learning about the various prehistoric creatures. A great pressie for dino or vintage fans.
