If you’re not one for a bit of emotion at bedtime, then The Building Boy by Ross Montgomery (Faber & Faber, RRP £6.99) might not be for you. This is definitely a bit of a tear jerker. With exquisite illustrations from David ‘The Bear and the Piano‘ Litchfield, it tells the story of the relationship between a boy and his grandmother, who used to be an architect in her younger years. When she’s not around any more, the boy embarks on a building project of his own – with spectacular results. A beautiful, heart-warming tale that’s asked for again and again in our house.
