We can’t get enough of Allan Ahlberg in our house – Kitty’s absolute favourite read is Peepo! (I have been known to read it five times in a row – good job I like it too!) and Alfie and I love his collaborations with illustrator Bruce Ingman – The Pencil and The Runaway Dinner, which feature such delights as a sausage called Melvin and duelling erasers. Hooray for Bread (Walker Books, RRP £6.99) is another Ahlberg/Ingman book, so, as you’d expect, it’s full of fantastic pictures, accompanied by rhyming text that proved appealing to both 21-month-old Kitty and nearly-five-year-old Alfie. There’s plenty of repetition and opportunity to shout Hooray! in this celebration of baked goods. which tells the tale of a loaf of bread from it’s conception to end, crumb by crumb. Totally fab.
