I often get asked to recommend children’s magazines that don’t come with a lorry load of plastic tat attached and I always recommend Okido, Anorak and NG Kids. If the first issue is anything to go by, I’m going to have to start adding Storytime to my list. It features fairy tales, myths, folk stories and poems from all over the world – this month’s stars include Aladdin, Goldilocks, Alice, Perseus and The Owl & the Pussycat – all beautifully illustrated. There are also puzzles and activities based on the stories and the website has downloads to complement – print out hare and tortoise playing pieces and owl and cat masks. Storytime is £3.99 per issue in newsagents (or £4.99 including delivery if you order online), or if you subscribe you’ll get at least 25% discount, with three issues for £8.99 and twelve months from £31.99, plus you get a file to store your magazines in. Next month’s edition will include the Wizard of Oz, St George and (drum roll) Augustus Gloop (Roald Dahl fan Alfie will be ecstatic) so there’s plenty of adventure to be had – I can imagine each issue being read over and over.
