Let’s start with a bit of disclosure - Mel, the brains behind Story, is a friend of mine. This is of absolutely zero relevance, however, because it’s such a fantastic idea I’d be featuring it even if my worst enemy had come up with it. A ‘walk-in book’ is essentially a deconstructed children’s book, distilled down to its constituent parts – characters, locations, situations – all neatly packaged in a smart suitcase. The characters take the form of a cotton doll and a felt fox mask for your child to wear, the location aspect is covered by a beautifully illustrated map and ten story cards provide inspiration for adventures. It’s a great way to get your child’s imagination racing and the case means it’s perfect for taking on travels – brilliant for long journeys. There are just a couple of days to go on Story’s Kickstarter campaign, so hop on over and become a backer. There are some great rewards on offer – £23 will get you an ‘Adventure to the Woods’ walk-in book (can’t wait for ours), £45 will buy one for you and one for a library, school or children’s centre and £100 will get you a bespoke limited-edition version with your child’s name as the Story character. We think it’s a fab product that is sure to encourage even the most reluctant readers to engage with stories, so please support it and share with friends and family.
