This is a bit of a proud mama moment for us as Smallprint owner Jenny is a graduate of BG School’s first So, You Want to Open an Online Shop? course. We loved her concept (and still do) which is to curate a store of beautiful books and prints for little ones (the clue’s in the name). You’ll find work from niche publishers such as Flying Eye Books and Big Picture Press, plus some of our favourite titles, including Benjamin Chaud’s The Bear’s Song, Hervé Tullet’s Mix it Up and Paul Thurlby’s Alphabet, and series such as Xavier Deneux’s TouchThinkLearn and BabyLit. Basically, if it’s a quirky, arty, pop-up, paper-cut children’s book you’ll find it here. The small but perfectly formed print collection is equally cool and colourful, featuring the art of Jay Fleck, Alison Oliver and Michelle Carlslund – our favourite is Fleck’s Voyage, with its pirate penguin and octopus. Prints are from £20 unframed and from £30 framed. Another element of Smallprint is the Book Club where you pay an annual fee to have a beautiful book delivered every month. There are three age groups to choose from – the New Baby Book Club would make an amazing special gift, from £130, and all books come wrapped in sense-stimulating paper that baby is sure to love. Jenny and her team (husband Joe, and children Bess and Gabriel) have lots planned for the future, including collaborations and stationery, so watch this space…
