Hot on the heels of my post about Plic Ploc Wiz, comes the revelation of Shape-O!. It’s a similar premise (dragging shapes onto a picture), but executed in a very different way. You’ll find over 100 puzzle pictures to choose from – robot, house, parrot, bus, burger (!?) – each comprising a series of shapes that you need to rearrange and drag to recreate the object. The design is extremely child-friendly and easy on the adult eye, too – no garish cartoons in sight – and you can also change the colourscheme (there are eight colour palettes) by tapping the rainbow button.
And all you iPad naysayers, listen up! Shape-O! has added educational value. Developed in conjunction with an education specialist, each image has a series of letter counters below, spelling out the name of the object – Alfie loves matching, dragging and repeating the letters, although the voice doing traditional pronunciation can be confusing if you’re using phonics. Another nice touch is the audio and visual ‘Well Done!’ or ‘Great!’ congratulation at the end. Entertainment and learning all for £1.49 from the App Store.
