We’ve been longtime fans of Likeabike, the original balance bike by the German designers and makers Kokua. They look like bikes but focus on balance and motor skills by taking off peddles and delivering features that help to make riding around much easier. Incredibly well designed, children who start off on balance bikes tend to progress onto ‘big bikes’ without stabilisers because they’ve already mastered making the bike move, lifting their legs and controlling it.
Likeabike started out as wooden bikes and then launched the lightweight aluminium Jumper version five years ago. If you’ve thought that you like the concept but that you don’t want to spend upwards of £150, Likeabike have recently launched entry-level aluminium versions Hardy and Rosalie (I think the latter name is more due to its pink colour) for under £100.
Suitable for 2-6 year olds, they deliver their design values at a lower price by taking out rear suspension and swapping the Jumper’s 12″ Schwalbe big apple tyres for pneumatic tyres. Rosalie and Hardy Likeabike’s are still primarily made from high quality lightweight aluminium although they’re slightly heavier due to having a steel fork. All in all, these are a really great value addition to their range. £99.95 each.
